Mercy Children Centre is a registered non-profit in Ndirande, Blantyre, Malawi — caring for the most vulnerable children in our community since 2011.

To give every child in our community the food, education, and love they need to thrive — regardless of circumstance.

OUR STORY

Why we started

In 2011, our founder Dorica saw children in her neighbourhood going without meals, wearing torn clothes, and missing school because their families couldn't afford the fees. She couldn't unsee it.

So she opened her doors. What started as caring for 4 children in a rented room has grown into two centres serving over 250 children every single day — with a feeding program, a scholarship fund, a widows' economic empowerment project, and construction underway on a permanent Children's Home.

Mercy Children Centre is registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act 1962 of Malawi and works in partnership with the Social Welfare Office in Child Welfare Services.

Our journey, milestone by milestone

  1. 2011

    Mercy Children opens

    Dorica starts with just 4 children in a rented space in Ndirande.

  2. 2018

    Land bought in Machinjiri

    We purchase land for a permanent Children's Home. Landscape work begins.

  3. 2019

    8-year anniversary

    We celebrate reaching nearly a decade of work — and launch the widows' goat project.

  4. 2020

    Our own building!

    After 9 years of renting, construction on our own Centre building finishes at 99.5%. Children begin using it in January 2021.

  5. 2021

    Reaching 262 children

    Two centres now serving over 260 kids with daily meals, early education, and ongoing support.

  6. 2022

    Young Mothers program launches

    Supporting 7+ teen mothers to return to school while raising their children.

  7. Today

    Building the Children's Home

    Construction is underway. Every donation brings us closer to opening a permanent home for children in need.
