For many adults, a trip to the airport is nothing special โ just part of travel, part of daily life.
But for the children at Mercy Children, most of whom have never left their neighbourhood, a visit to Chileka Airport was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
As 2016 drew to a close, we took the kids to see the airport โ to watch planes take off and land, to imagine where those planes were going, and to dream about the places they might one day travel to themselves.
The wonder on their faces was everything. Questions flew faster than the aircraft overhead. “How does it stay up?” “Where do they sleep on the plane?” “Can people see us from up there?”
Exposing our children to new places is part of what we do โ because dreams grow in proportion to what a child sees is possible.
