Some days at Mercy Children break us open in the best way.

Today was one of them. We handed out new shoes to children who have walked barefoot their whole lives — to school, to the market, to play, to everywhere. For many of them, it’s the first pair they’ve ever owned.

The smiles. The laughter. The way one little boy kept looking down at his feet, as if to check the shoes were still there. That’s the moment our work is built on.
