Eight years ago, we opened the doors of Mercy Montessori Children Centre (MMCC) with a simple mission: to give the poorest and most vulnerable children in Ndirande a chance at a real childhood โ food, learning, safety, and love.
Today, eight years in, we’re still here. And we’re still growing.
Where we are
We’ve poured everything into this centre. But we’re still renting the buildings we use as classrooms and hostels โ and the rent is a huge drag on our finances. Every month, funds that could go to food, clothes, healthcare and materials are eaten up by rent.
A major milestone: we bought land
Our vision has always been to build a permanent Children’s Home โ a safe, dignified place that is ours, where street kids and orphans can find stability. We’re excited to share that we’ve bought the land.
Now we need to build.
The numbers
- Target: USD 6,757 (MWK 50,000,000)
- Size of building: 52m long ร 19m wide
- Capacity: 50 children
- Features: 3 classrooms, kitchen, office, store room, toilets, bathrooms, and a small clinic
We need two kinds of help
- Donors โ any amount towards the $6,757 target brings us closer
- Volunteer builders โ we can’t afford to hire construction workers right now, so skilled hands on-site matter
