Isabel Michongwe, a 17-year-old girl from Ndirande, Blantyre, has been raised by her single father after losing her mother at the age of two. Isabel began her education at the Mercy Children Center, attending nursery and later primary school there.
After completing her Form Four MANEB Examination in 2023, Isabel did not achieve the results she hoped for. Despite this setback, she volunteered at the Mercy Children Center as a caregiver. Now, she is determined to return to school to re-sit the Form Four MANEB Examination and earn better grades, aiming for selection to a public university.
Isabel explains that her poor performance in her initial exams was due to frequently missing classes because her father struggled to pay the school fees on time, given his business and other responsibilities. “I want to go back to school so I can get better points and have a chance to be selected for a public university. I didn’t do well last year because I often missed classes due to a lack of school fees,” she shared.
While Isabel is eager to continue her education, she cannot afford the school fees and materials on her own. She is appealing to well-wishers for support to help her return to school and pursue her dreams.
Simon Nkhambala, the Founder and Director of the Mercy Children Center, where Isabel studied, believes in her potential. “I’m appealing to well-wishers to support Isabel with the school fees and materials so she can re-sit for the MANEB Examination. She is a hardworking and talented girl,” he said.
Isabel remains hopeful that with the necessary support, she can overcome her challenges and continue her educational journey.
